Headed up to fish the Lilstock reefs on the new years day bank holiday in an effort to winkle out a ray or two. We arrived at low tide and headed around to the right hand reefs to fish the incoming tide. A couple of other chaps were off further round to our right and quite a few people turned up to fish the pipe area – possibly a competition?
I fished one rod with sandeel tipped with squid and the other with a whole squid. 3 hours of fishing resulted in no definite bites, although due to the waves it was quite hard to tell with the rod tips rattling around a lot. Where we were fishing was pretty shallow so I’m not sure I’d picked the best place to maximise our chances.
Did see another angler further along the shore catch, what from the distance looked like ray but couldn’t be certain for sure what it was.
Three hours of fishing was enough for me and we headed home empty handed and chalked the session up as “practice”.
